Since January 1st, 2020 the remittance scheme for charity lotteries has changed. This was already reported in the Bulletin of Acts, Orders and Decrees number 353, volume 2019. Now it has gotten into effect, which means that the minimum mandatory percentage contribution to charity lotteries is now at least 50%. However, in the upcoming year this will only be 40%.
Review of the lottery system
Earlier in 2019, the Cabinet reviewed the lottery system. It informed about the House about a different system and the opening of the market in a letter written on 5 July 2019. The reduction of the remittance obligation should also be seen in that context.
Different prize schedule
Earlier this year, the Dutch Postcode Lottery reported that this reduction may lead to a different layout of the prize schedule. There is now more flexibility, the lottery wrote in a press release on July 5th, 2019. There’s a precondition though, namely that that the nominal remittance to existing beneficiaries will not decrease at the charity lotteries BankGiro Loterij, Nationale Postcode Loterij and VriendenLoterij.
