Powerball and Mega Millions are very popular lotteries in the United States for a reason. The prize pool can be impressive, and this was shown again in New Hampshire and Florida recently. An impressive Jackpot of 559,7 million dollars, which is about 456 million euros, was won in New Hampshire. It was just one day after a Mega Millions Jackpot of 540 million dollars (441 million euros) in Florida.

Who is the winner?

You never know where a winning Powerball or Mega Million tickets will be sold. This time it was the Reeds Ferry Market in New Hampshire. It obviously attracted a lot of interest from residents and the press. The owner of the convenience store, Sam Safa, stated that he’s incredibly happy about the news. He has the feeling that he has won the Jackpot himself. In a sense this is true, because a bonus of 75.000 dollars is given to a store that sells the winning ticket. Sam Safa told that doesn’t know the identity of the winner, who hasn’t claimed the prize yet.

The Powerball draw on Saturday is always exciting because there’s a lot of money at stake. The winning Powerball ticket had the numbers 12, 29, 30, 33 and 61 with Powerball 26. 559 million dollars will be added to the bank account of the lucky winner. It could even have been more money, because the initial Jackpot was estimated 570 million dollars. No reason has been given for the lower amount, but the winner probably won’t complain! That person still has to come forward though.

Against all odds
In a 7-Eleven store in Port Richey, Florida almost the same situation as in New Hampshire took place. The store will receive 100.000 dollars because it sold a Mega Million ticket with the winning numbers 28,30,39,59,70 and 10. Very impressive, considering the fact that the winning odds of the Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 302.5 million. The chance that someone win the Powerball Jackpot is 1 in 292.2 million. The winner hasn’t claimed the prize yet. He or she can choose between the annuity or cash option to receive the prize money. With annuity the prize money will be paid in parts for 29 years, whereas the winner receives 281 million for Mega Millions or 358.5 million dollars for Powerball immediately with the cash option.
